Mumbai Police have identified a suspect in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, confirming that burglary was the motive behind the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dixit Gedam said that the accused gained entry to Khan’s Bandra apartment via the fire escape. Khan lives there with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children.
“One accused has been identified, and 10 detection teams are working on the case,” Gedam added.
Earlier, police confirmed that Khan was out of danger after sustaining stab wounds during a scuffle with the intruder at his residence.
Niraj Uttamani, chief operating officer of the hospital where Khan was admitted around 3:30 a.m., said a small foreign object was found near his spine.
Dr. Nitin Dange from Lilavati Hospital confirmed that Khan suffered a serious injury to his thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged near his spine.
“A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team. He is completely stable now. He is recovering well and out of danger,” Dr Dange told reporters.
Khan, 54, is the son of former India cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore. He has appeared in over 70 films and television series, some of which he also produced.
