Amid escalating unrest in Bangladesh under the interim government led by Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, a group of miscreants launched an ambush on an Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar, injuring several people in a violent confrontation.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, said that a group of miscreants from Samity Para, an area adjacent to the Air Force base, carried out the attack. The Bangladesh Air Force is taking necessary action in response.
Local media reported that several people were injured in the clashes after Air Force personnel fired several rounds at the protesters around 11:30 AM local time.
“A confrontation broke out when the Deputy Commissioner asked locals to vacate the Air Force area and relocate to the Khurushkul Housing Project,” a local journalist reported.
The latest incident highlights the growing unrest in Bangladesh, which has witnessed unprecedented violence since the government led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in August 2024.
Last week, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Mohammad Babul Mia was brutally beaten to death.
Top BNP leader Shamsuzzaman Dudu also criticized the interim government, stating, “Under this government, workers and political leaders have been killed. The culprits must be brought to justice without delay. Otherwise, public dissatisfaction and unrest among political activists will continue to grow.”
Earlier this month, violent clashes at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) left more than 100 students injured.
The escalating violence has sparked widespread outrage across Bangladesh, with many calling for Yunus to resign as violent incidents—including attacks on minorities—continue to rise.
