Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted Assam’s rapid economic growth, stating that the state’s economy has doubled over the past six years under the BJP government. Speaking at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati, he said the event aims to connect Assam’s economic potential with global opportunities.
PM Modi noted the historical importance of Eastern India and the Northeast, emphasizing the region’s growing role in the country’s development. “The land of Eastern India and the Northeast is set to shape a new future. Advantage Assam is a platform to link Assam’s progress with the world. History shows that Eastern India played a key role in India’s prosperity. As India moves forward, the Northeast is poised to contribute significantly,” he said.
Highlighting Assam’s economic growth, the Prime Minister pointed out that the state’s economy has grown from approximately Rs 2.75 lakh crore in 2018 to Rs six lakh crore in 2024. “This reflects the double effect of a double-engine government,” he added.
Discussing India’s global trade and connectivity, PM Modi stressed the importance of regional and international partnerships. “India is strengthening its local supply chains and engaging in free trade agreements with various regions. Our ties with East Asia are becoming stronger, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor is creating new opportunities,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also outlined the Centre’s investments in infrastructure, noting that institutional reforms, industry, infrastructure, and innovation are key drivers of India’s progress. “Investors see potential in India’s growth, and Assam is advancing with the momentum of a double-engine government,” he said.
Citing improvements in the railway sector, PM Modi stated that Assam received an average of Rs 2,100 crore annually for its railway budget between 2009 and 2014. This amount has now increased to Rs 10,000 crore under the current government.
The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit aims to attract investments and promote economic development by providing a platform for businesses and investors to explore opportunities in Assam’s growing industrial and infrastructure sectors.
