Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Seychelles’ 50th National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour, with Indian defence personnel joining the ceremonial parade in a display of the close strategic ties between the two countries.
A contingent of the Assam Rifles, the Indian Navy marching band and two Indian naval ships participated in the celebrations in Victoria, where Seychelles marked 50 years of its Independence.
Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in the island nation on Saturday at the invitation of President Patrick Herminie, applauded the performances and stood in respect as the Indian contingent marched past.
The celebrations also featured Seychelles’ military personnel parachuting into the venue carrying the national flag, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam were also present at the event.
