Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the transformative impact of the Government’s NextGen GST reforms, underscoring their role in enhancing ease of living, strengthening public health and nutrition, and supporting India’s middle class, MSMEs, and rural economy.
Addressing the latest phase of the reform, PM Modi described the measures as a continuation of India’s decade-long commitment to bold economic reforms, including corporate tax reductions, GST implementation, and personal income tax simplification. He said the reforms simplify tax structures, rationalize rates, and make the system more equitable and growth-oriented, complementing India’s strong fiscal discipline and improved sovereign credit ratings. Responding to posts on X, PM Modi said, “The #NextGenGST Reforms continue this journey, making the system simpler, fairer and more growth-oriented… With these efforts, we are laying a strong foundation for a Viksit Bharat.”
The Prime Minister highlighted the reforms’ impact on public health and nutrition, noting that reduced GST rates on essential food items, cooking essentials, and protein-rich products enhance affordability and dietary access for families. He linked the reforms to flagship programmes like Ayushman Bharat and POSHAN Abhiyaan, reinforcing the government’s commitment to balanced nutrition and holistic well-being. “The #NextGenGST measures reflect the vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’ by making essential food items more affordable for families across India,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
On financial security and healthcare access, the reforms provide significant tax relief on life and health insurance products, marking a milestone toward the government’s mission of ‘Insurance for All by 2047.’ PM Modi said, “The next-generation GST reforms, which make life and health insurance more affordable, mark another important milestone in our mission of ‘Insurance for All by 2047.’ Together, we move towards a Swasth and Samarth Bharat. #NextGenGST”
The Prime Minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to India’s middle class, highlighting that the reforms make household products, including televisions, air conditioners, and everyday essentials, more affordable. He added, “India’s hardworking middle class is at the heart of our growth journey… Through historic income tax cuts and now #NextGenGST reforms… we are committed to enhancing ease of living and supporting the aspirations of crores of families.”
MSMEs and the manufacturing sector are set to benefit significantly from the reforms. PM Modi noted that simplified tax slabs, digital compliance, and rationalized rates will reduce costs and boost competitiveness. “MSMEs are the backbone of our economy… The latest GST changes build on this momentum by rationalising rates, simplifying compliance and boosting enterprises across India. #NextGenGST,” he said. On manufacturing, he added, “Lower input costs with simplified slabs of 5% & 18%, faster digital compliance and rising demand will give a big boost to ‘Made in India’ products.”
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed support for India’s dairy farmers and rural economy. He noted that initiatives like the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, cooperative support, and sectoral reforms, coupled with the GST changes, will empower dairy farmers, enhance value addition, and make dairy products more affordable. “Through initiatives like the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, support for cooperatives and continuous reforms, our Government remains committed to transforming India’s dairy sector. The #NextGenGST reforms are another step towards empowering lakhs of dairy farmers,” he added.
Finally, PM Modi highlighted healthcare accessibility, noting that reduced GST on essential health products, including zero tax on 33 life-saving medicines, builds on initiatives like Jan Aushadhi Kendras and Ayushman Bharat. “Affordable healthcare for every Indian has always been our mission… we continue our journey to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for all,” he said.
The NextGen GST reforms, according to PM Modi, represent a comprehensive, citizen-centric approach that strengthens India’s economic growth, public health, and social well-being, while enhancing ease of living and supporting key sectors of the economy.
