Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira at Sri Kshetra Adichunchanagiri in Karnataka’s Mandya district, paying tribute to the legacy of revered seer Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji and outlining a vision rooted in tradition, sustainability, and social responsibility.
Addressing a large gathering of devotees and saints, PM Modi underlined the enduring strength of India’s civilisational heritage, saying, “India is a vibrant civilization that has been thriving for thousands of years.” He added, “There are very few examples in the world where traditions remain continuously intact for such a long period.”
Tribute to spiritual legacy
Highlighting the role of spiritual leaders in shaping society, PM Modi said, “In our society, from time to time, such great personalities have continued to emerge, who have not remained confined merely to spiritual guidance.” He emphasized their deep connection with people, noting, “They have lived among the people, understood their joys and sorrows, felt their struggles, and shown the way to lead society out of sorrow, suffering, and hardship.”
The Prime Minister described the newly inaugurated Mandira as more than just a physical structure, calling it a symbol of devotion and service that will inspire future generations.
Karnataka’s blend of tradition and technology
Speaking about the region, PM Modi praised Karnataka’s unique identity, saying it represents a confluence of philosophy and modern progress. He also lauded institutions like the Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math for serving as a moral and spiritual guide.
Nine-point appeal for nation-building
Drawing inspiration from the values of the Math, the Prime Minister made nine key appeals to citizens, focusing on sustainability, health, and social responsibility.
On water conservation, PM Modi urged, “My first appeal is that we all resolve to save water and manage it better.”
Highlighting environmental responsibility, he said, “My second appeal is related to trees and nature, Under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, millions of people have planted trees in the name of their mothers; Let us also plant trees in honor of our mother and resolve to protect Mother Earth.”
Calling for cleanliness, PM Modi stressed, “My third appeal is regarding cleanliness; Be it a religious site, a public place, a village or a city, maintaining cleanliness everywhere is our responsibility.”
On economic self-reliance, the Prime Minister said, “My fourth appeal is related to Swadeshi and self-reliance; Let us adopt Indian products, strengthen Indian manufacturers and industries.”
Encouraging domestic tourism, PM Modi noted, “My fifth appeal is related to appreciating the beauty of our country; Let us know our country, travel within it and promote domestic tourism.”
Focus on farmers, health and fitness
Addressing the farming community, the Prime Minister said, “My sixth appeal to the farmers is that they move towards natural farming.”
Raising concerns about lifestyle diseases, he remarked, “My seventh appeal is related to healthy eating; Obesity is becoming a major challenge in our country. To address this, make an effort to reduce the amount of oil in your food by 10%.”
On fitness, PM Modi added, “My eighth appeal is related to yoga, sports, and fitness. We must all make these an integral part of our lives.”
Finally, he emphasized social responsibility, stating, “My ninth appeal is related to the spirit of service.”
Vision for a developed India
Concluding his address, PM Modi expressed confidence that collective efforts guided by these principles would strengthen the nation’s development journey.
He reiterated that service to society and adherence to shared values would accelerate progress towards a developed India, calling for a unified commitment to nation-building.
