Delhi govt fully committed to fuel conservation, says CM Rekha Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said the Delhi government is fully committed to promoting fuel conservation and public transport, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to adopt energy-saving habits amid global uncertainty.

In a post on X, Gupta said the government has decided to limit the use of official vehicles across departments, with ministers, MLAs, officers and staff encouraged to use minimum vehicles, prioritise carpooling and shift to public transport wherever possible. She also urged residents of Delhi to support the national call for energy conservation.

Last week, PM Modi urged citizens to reduce dependence on imported goods, cut non-essential consumption including gold purchases, and adopt fuel-saving measures such as public transport, electric vehicles and carpooling. He also advised restraint in foreign travel and destination weddings to help curb foreign exchange outflow.

The Prime Minister further encouraged people to promote domestic tourism, citing destinations such as the Statue of Unity, and called for a shift towards natural farming for long-term sustainability.
