India condemns attack on Indian-flagged ship off Oman coast

India on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on an Indian-flagged commercial ship off the coast of Oman.

In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The attack on an Indian-flagged ship off the coast of Oman yesterday is unacceptable and we deplore the fact that commercial shipping and civilian mariners continue to be targeted.”

The ministry confirmed that all Indian crew members on board the vessel were safe and thanked the Omani authorities for carrying out rescue and assistance operations following the incident.

“India reiterates that targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew members, or otherwise impeding freedom of navigation and commerce, should be avoided,” the MEA said.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in key maritime corridors in the region, where several commercial vessels have faced threats in recent months due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Indian authorities are closely monitoring the situation and remain in touch with regional partners regarding the safety of Indian seafarers and commercial maritime operations.
