PM Modi concludes Norway visit, heads to Italy after India-Nordic Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday concluded his visit to Norway after participating in the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo and departed for Rome on the next leg of his five-nation tour.

In a post on X, PM Modi described the Norway visit as “very fruitful” and said he held productive talks with Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and participated in the India-Nordic Summit where several decisions were taken to strengthen cooperation across sectors.

The Prime Minister thanked the people and government of Norway for their warmth and friendship, and said India would continue working closely with Nordic countries to expand trade and investment, promote sustainable growth, boost innovation, strengthen climate action and enhance cooperation in the Arctic region.

PM Modi said India and the Nordic nations have witnessed strong progress in recent years, with growing trade and investment ties.

Highlighting a key outcome of the summit, he said India and the Nordic countries decided to elevate their relationship to a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership.

According to the Prime Minister, the initiative would combine innovation, scale and talent while advancing shared commitments towards sustainability, trusted technologies and future-oriented growth.

During the visit, PM Modi was conferred with Norway’s highest civilian honour, the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit Grand Cross, by King Harald V in Oslo on Monday.

The honour marked the 32nd international award conferred on PM Modi and the second during his ongoing foreign tour. Earlier, Sweden awarded him the Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander Grand Cross, the country’s highest civilian honour for foreign dignitaries.

In the final leg of his tour, PM Modi will visit Italy at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

During the visit, he is scheduled to call on Italian President Sergio Mattarella and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Meloni.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit comes amid growing momentum in India-Italy relations, with both countries implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029.

The roadmap focuses on cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defence and security, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and people-to-people ties.

The MEA said bilateral trade between India and Italy reached 16.77 billion US dollars in 2025, while cumulative foreign direct investment from Italy stood at 3.66 billion US dollars between April 2000 and September 2025.
