‘Unacceptable’: India condemns attack on UAE’s Fujairah oil hub, calls for immediate halt to hostilities

India has strongly condemned the recent drone and missile strikes on Fujairah, a strategically significant energy hub in the United Arab Emirates, terming the attack “unacceptable” and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities targeting civilian infrastructure.

The strikes, which reportedly hit the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone (FOIZ), left three Indian nationals injured. In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in the UAE said, “Three Indian nationals have been injured in today’s attacks in Fujairah. We are in touch with local authorities for ensuring adequate medical care and welfare of the affected Indian nationals.”

In an official statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s firm stance against targeting civilians. “The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable. We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians,” he said.

India also emphasised the importance of maintaining stability in critical global trade routes, urging “free and unimpeded navigation and commerce” through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law. Reaffirming its diplomatic position, New Delhi underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to restoring peace across West Asia.

Fujairah holds strategic importance as the only emirate located entirely along the Gulf of Oman, providing a vital alternative route for oil exports that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most sensitive maritime chokepoints.

Meanwhile, the UAE government condemned the incident as a “renewed unprovoked aggression,” reportedly linked to Iran. The country’s Ministry of Defence stated that four cruise missiles launched towards multiple locations were successfully intercepted, with loud explosions heard across several areas.

Authorities in the UAE have asserted their right to respond, calling the attack a violation of international law and a direct threat to national security and territorial integrity. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) issued advisories urging residents to remain indoors and avoid approaching debris from intercepted projectiles.

As tensions escalate in the region, the MEA reiterated that “India stands ready to support all efforts for a peaceful resolution of issues,” stressing the need to prevent further escalation and safeguard civilian lives.
