The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the construction of a Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) complex in Amaravati, the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
The project, estimated to cost ₹1,299.08 crore, aims to address the growing requirement for office space for various Central Government departments and agencies by bringing them together within a single integrated campus. The move is expected to improve inter-departmental coordination and enhance the delivery of services in the state.
Planned across 5.53 acres in Amaravati, the office complex will comprise two blocks with a total built-up area of approximately 23.25 lakh square feet. One block will consist of 13 floors above the ground level, while the second block will have 10 floors. Together, the facilities are designed to accommodate around 8,000 officials and staff members.
The project will also provide podium parking for about 1,800 equivalent car spaces and include a range of civic and employee amenities such as a bank with ATM, post office, crèche, recreation room, ladies’ room, conference hall, multipurpose hall and four canteens.
According to the government, the proposed complex will be developed in line with advanced green building standards and sustainable construction practices. The campus is planned to achieve a minimum GRIHA 4-Star Rating and will comply with the latest Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024.
The project will incorporate energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, environmentally sustainable materials and features designed to enhance occupant comfort and well-being.
Special emphasis has also been placed on accessibility. The campus will provide a barrier-free environment to ensure ease of access, safety and convenience for Divyangjan, in accordance with applicable accessibility standards.
The government said the project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities. During the construction phase, it is estimated to create around 7 lakh man-days of employment annually, while about 50,000 man-days of employment are expected to be generated every year during the operational phase.
The project will be executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Pre-bid activities have already begun, and tender documents are currently being prepared.
