Centre Receives ₹33.86 Lakh Crore in FY26, Transfers Higher Tax Share to States

The Government of India received ₹33,85,982 crore during the financial year 2025-26, amounting to 99.4 per cent of the revised estimates for total receipts, according to the provisional and unaudited accounts released by the Ministry of Finance on Monday.
 
The total receipts comprised ₹26,23,264 crore in net tax revenue to the Centre, ₹6,78,961 crore in non-tax revenue and ₹83,757 crore in non-debt capital receipts.
 
Non-debt capital receipts included ₹24,617 crore from recovery of loans and ₹59,140 crore under miscellaneous capital receipts.
 
According to the accounts, the Centre transferred ₹13,92,971 crore to state governments as their share of taxes during 2025-26. The amount is ₹1,06,086 crore higher than the tax devolution made in the previous financial year.
 
The government’s total expenditure during the year stood at ₹49,05,151 crore, representing 98.8 per cent of the revised estimates for 2025-26.
 
Of the total expenditure, ₹38,36,032 crore was incurred on the revenue account, while ₹10,69,119 crore was spent on the capital account.
 
Within revenue expenditure, interest payments accounted for ₹12,42,575 crore, while major subsidies amounted to ₹4,53,854 crore.
 
The provisional figures provide an overview of the Centre’s receipts and expenditure position for the financial year 2025-26 before final audited accounts are prepared.
