Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) | PM Modi's 12-year tenure

Delhi: BJP puts up banners marking PM Modi’s 12-year tenure

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday put up banners across the national capital to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 12 years in office and becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.

Modi crossed the milestone of 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the record held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 consecutive days following the country’s first general elections.

The achievement prompted congratulatory messages from National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, political figures and other prominent personalities.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa congratulated the Prime Minister, describing the occasion as a historic moment in India’s democratic journey.

In a post on X, Yediyurappa said, “Today marks a historic milestone in Bharat’s democratic journey as Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in independent India’s history.”

In an open letter, Yediyurappa highlighted what he described as key achievements of the Modi-led government over the past 12 years, including economic growth, the abrogation of Article 370 and welfare initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

Referring to India’s economic performance, he said the country had moved from “red tape to red carpet” and noted that India had risen from the world’s 11th-largest economy in 2014 to the fourth largest in 2026.

Yediyurappa also cited the expansion of financial inclusion through the Jan Dhan Yojana and the provision of cooking gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme as significant achievements during the period.

The BJP leader further referred to the government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 in August 2019, describing it as a landmark step in integrating Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.
