India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram, Haryana, on June 25-26 under its BRICS Chairship 2026, bringing together energy ministers and senior officials from member nations to strengthen cooperation on energy security, sustainability and innovation.
Guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)”, India has adopted “सर्वेषां ऊर्जम्” (Energy for All) as the theme for the Energy Track.
The meeting comes at a time when countries are seeking to balance energy security, affordability and sustainability while addressing climate change, technological transformation and rising energy demand. BRICS, which now comprises 11 member nations, represents nearly half of the world’s population and around 40 per cent of global GDP.
According to the Ministry of Power, India has structured the BRICS Energy Agenda around three key priorities — energy security and sustainability, energy access and equity, and technology and innovation.
The ministry said the meeting will also provide an opportunity for India to showcase its progress in the energy sector, including a more than 50-fold increase in solar power capacity over the past decade, deployment of over 60 million smart meters and an ambitious target of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032. India has also expanded its transmission network, accelerated Green Energy Corridors, implemented the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and promoted regional grid connectivity through initiatives such as One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG).
In the biofuels sector, India has achieved 20 per cent ethanol blending and recently introduced E85 fuel, reflecting its efforts to diversify the energy mix and reduce emissions.
The country has also emerged as a leading advocate of global clean energy cooperation through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
Ahead of the ministerial meeting, three virtual meetings of senior energy officials and two seminars on artificial intelligence in the energy sector and carbon capture technologies have already been held to build consensus on key priorities. The BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting is expected to deepen cooperation on energy security, innovation and sustainable development while advancing the interests of the Global South and promoting future-ready energy systems.
