The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will host the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 in New Delhi from June 15 to 17, with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla set to inaugurate the national-level event on June 16.

The programme aims to strengthen youth engagement with democratic institutions by providing participants with practical exposure to governance, policymaking and parliamentary procedures.

Building on previous editions, the initiative seeks to encourage young citizens to contribute to national discourse and develop a deeper understanding of democratic processes. The ministry described the programme as an effort to channel the ideas and aspirations of young people towards the vision of a developed India by 2047.

The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament is being conducted in three stages – district, state and national levels.

At the district level, deliberations on the theme “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy” were held across 757 nodal universities and institutions nationwide. The top five participants from each district advanced to the state rounds.

The state-level sessions were organised in legislative assemblies and government venues across the country on the theme “Union Budget 2026: Yuva Shakti-Driven Budget”. Presided over by Governors and Speakers of state legislatures, the discussions provided participants with insights into governance and public policy.

The national round, being held from June 15 to 17 in New Delhi, brings together top-performing delegates from all states and Union Territories for the final stage of the programme.

The event will feature discussions on “Nari Shakti Vandan: Catalysing Inclusivity and Viksit Bharat 2047”, during which one representative from each team will address the House for three minutes. Participants will also take part in a Question Hour format, allowing teams to pose and answer questions in a simulated parliamentary setting.

Other highlights include a masterclass on public speaking and oratory by an eminent personality, a visit to the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library (PM Sangrahalaya), and a guided tour of the new Parliament building.

The programme will conclude with an awards ceremony on June 17, recognising outstanding performances by participants.

The ministry said the initiative aims to nurture leadership, civic awareness and democratic participation among young people while encouraging them to play an active role in India’s development journey.
