Mann Ki Baat | West Asia Crisis

PM Modi Thanks Citizens for Responding to West Asia Crisis Appeal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked citizens for responding positively to his appeal for resource conservation amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, saying people across the country have actively supported the measures through their everyday actions.

Addressing the nation during the 135th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said the public’s participation reflects the country’s collective strength in times of global challenges.

“In view of the prevalent war-like situation in West Asia, I had urged countrymen on a few points. I had asked people to avoid buying gold for some time, as far as possible. I am grateful to every citizen of the country; not only have they supported my appeal, they are also actively cooperating in every way,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister said many families had shared their experiences with him, explaining how they had adopted the suggested measures in their daily lives.

He noted that several households had decided to postpone fresh gold purchases for weddings and instead recycle existing jewellery whenever required.

“Numerous families have decided not to buy gold for weddings in their homes this time; if the need arises, they would recycle old gold to create new jewellery,” he said.

PM Modi also said many people had postponed overseas travel and embraced carpooling and public transport to reduce fuel consumption.

“Those who used to travel in their own vehicles in the same direction every day have now started commuting together. People are making every effort to use buses and the metro, which is resulting in savings on petrol and diesel,” he said.

The Prime Minister further noted that the use of natural fertilisers has increased in several parts of the country, reflecting growing public participation in sustainable farming practices.

“I am happy that we Indians are facing this global crisis together. I am confident that this very power of public participation will strengthen us and lead us to success,” he said.

PM Modi had earlier appealed to citizens to adopt measures such as reducing unnecessary gold purchases, limiting fuel consumption, postponing non-essential foreign travel, using public transport and promoting natural farming in view of the prevailing geopolitical situation in West Asia.
