Shivraj Singh Chouhan to visit flood-hit Arunachal Pradesh, chair high-level review meeting in Assam

Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan will undertake a two-day visit to the Northeast beginning June 30 to review the flood situation in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The visit comes as the Centre steps up efforts to monitor the flood situation and expedite relief and rehabilitation measures in the affected states through on-ground assessment and coordinated action.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Chouhan will depart from New Delhi on June 30 and arrive in Guwahati, where he will chair a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the Assam government. The meeting will assess the impact of the floods on crops, villages and critical infrastructure, review the progress of relief operations, and discuss the need for additional assistance and intervention.

On July 1, the Union Minister will travel to the flood-affected areas of Arunachal Pradesh to conduct both aerial and ground surveys. During the visit, he will assess the condition of flood-hit villages, agricultural fields and relief camps to evaluate the extent of the damage.

Chouhan is also scheduled to interact directly with affected farmers, local residents, women’s groups and youth to understand the effectiveness of the ongoing relief efforts and identify immediate requirements for further support.

Later in the day, the minister will hold meetings with ministers of the Arunachal Pradesh government, senior officials and public representatives. The discussions will focus on assessing crop losses, ensuring compensation and crop insurance payments for affected farmers, restoring flood-damaged roads, bridges and embankments, and formulating strategies for rebuilding rural infrastructure.

The visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to closely monitor the flood situation in the Northeast and accelerate relief and rehabilitation efforts through timely field assessments and prompt decision-making. The Centre has said it remains committed to extending all necessary assistance to the flood-affected states.
