The Ministry of Textiles on Wednesday concluded the two-day Textiles Summit 2026, bringing together representatives from state governments, industry and academia to chart the future roadmap for the sector with a strong emphasis on sustainability, exports and global market expansion.
Addressing the concluding session, Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh stressed the need to move from planning to execution by implementing district and state-level strategies with a proactive approach. He highlighted the importance of product-market alignment, value addition, compliance with sustainability and environmental standards, effective utilisation of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and a greater focus on niche products.
Textile Secretary Neelam Shami Rao said the recommendations received from states, districts, industry stakeholders and Export Promotion Councils would be incorporated into a comprehensive National Textile Export Roadmap aimed at strengthening exports and enhancing India’s presence in global textile trade.
A special session addressed by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal focused on leveraging recently concluded FTAs to boost textile exports. He urged industry stakeholders to address information gaps at the district level and encouraged states and Union Territories to actively participate in the revived District as Export Hubs initiative.
The summit’s final sessions deliberated on quality standards, sustainability certifications, textile waste management, recycling systems and digital product passports, while also outlining strategies for export enablement, market diversification, ease of doing business, promotion of man-made fibres, development of globally competitive MSMEs and strengthening Brand India in international markets. Participants reiterated the sector’s ambition of achieving textile exports worth USD 100 billion by 2030.
