The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m. on Thursday after repeated protests by Opposition members disrupted proceedings during the Question Hour.
The House began the day’s proceedings by congratulating India’s medal winners at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Soon after Question Hour commenced, Opposition members raised slogans amid the row over Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s remarks during the debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, disrupting proceedings and forcing the House to be adjourned till 2 p.m
The anti-paper leak legislation was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday through a voice vote following an intense two-day debate marked by sharp exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches.
The Bill amends the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, with the objective of strengthening legal measures to curb paper leaks and examination-related malpractices.
During the debate, members of the ruling NDA and its allies backed the legislation, describing it as a significant step towards ensuring greater transparency and integrity in the examination system. Opposition members, however, questioned whether the proposed amendments adequately addressed the root causes of recurring paper leaks and examination failures.
The amended law seeks to strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity in public examinations through stricter punitive provisions while safeguarding the interests of students.
The Bill is expected to be taken up in the Rajya Sabha later on Thursday.
