Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) marked its 15th Foundation Day with a Stakeholders’ Meet in New Delhi, highlighting its expanding role in India’s renewable energy transition and the country’s clean energy ambitions. Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik said SECI’s 15-year journey reflects India’s growing leadership in the global renewable energy transition.
Naik said SECI has consistently contributed to the nation’s clean energy vision and expressed confidence that the corporation would continue to play a central role in achieving India’s renewable energy goals.
The event was attended by Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority (CEA); Shri Mayank Tewari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE); and Vivek Jain, Chairman, INOXGFL Group, along with senior officials and stakeholders from the renewable energy sector.
SECI to expand opportunities across renewable energy sector
Speaking at the event, Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, SECI, said the organisation remains committed to opening new opportunities in the renewable energy sector by working closely with stakeholders and responding to evolving market requirements.
He said SECI’s 15-year journey has demonstrated both the organisation’s commitment to renewable energy and the country’s collective resolve towards sustainable energy. He also acknowledged the contribution of stakeholders who have supported SECI’s growth.
Stakeholders discuss emerging opportunities in energy transition
The Stakeholders’ Meet featured two thematic sessions focusing on emerging developments in India’s energy transition.
The first session, “Reimagining Industry through Green Molecules,” examined the potential of green hydrogen and its derivatives to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors while creating new opportunities for industrial growth.
Discussions covered the scope for domestic production and emerging applications of green molecules, along with the policy support, infrastructure, technology and financing required to develop green molecule markets at scale.
The second session, “The Changing Energy Landscape: Distributed Renewables and New Energy Markets,” focused on the evolving role of distributed renewable energy in India.
Participants discussed greater consumer participation, integration of distributed energy resources and emerging market mechanisms. The session also examined policy and regulatory frameworks required for effective integration of distributed renewables and the continued expansion of renewable energy.
SECI enables over ₹3.6 lakh crore in market investments
Over its 15 years of operations, SECI has recorded significant growth in renewable energy deployment and market development.
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, more than 41 GW of renewable energy generation capacity has been commissioned through third-party developers through SECI interventions.
The corporation has also signed power sale agreements for more than 67 GW with various distribution companies (DISCOMs) and consumers.
SECI has enabled cumulative market investments of approximately ₹3.6 lakh crore, while also rapidly expanding its own project portfolio.
Beyond renewable power generation, the corporation is increasingly active in areas such as energy storage, green hydrogen and allied clean-energy technologies, reflecting the changing requirements of India’s energy transition.
From National Solar Mission implementing agency to renewable energy-focused CPSE
SECI was incorporated on September 20, 2011, as a dedicated implementing agency for the National Solar Mission. Over the past 15 years, it has expanded its mandate and emerged as a major public-sector enterprise focused exclusively on renewable energy.
A Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, SECI now has a mandate covering the broader renewable energy ecosystem.
Its evolution mirrors the expansion of India’s clean energy ambitions – from developing solar power capacity to supporting large-scale renewable energy procurement, green hydrogen, energy storage and emerging energy markets.
