Social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was reportedly detained by Gurugram Police from his residence on Saturday ahead of the proposed Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to a post on the CJP’s X handle, around 50 police personnel in plain clothes reached Rathee’s residence in Gurugram at around 8 a.m. and took him into custody. The circumstances and legal grounds for the reported detention were not immediately clear.
Rathee had participated in a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengaluru on Thursday and was scheduled to attend the CJP’s proposed demonstration in the national capital later on Saturday.
The reported detention comes amid heightened security arrangements across Delhi ahead of the protest. Police have intensified vehicle checks at the capital’s borders and deployed personnel equipped with body cameras to record incidents during the demonstration.
Security has also been strengthened around the residences of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Drone surveillance is underway at key locations, while entry and exit gates at several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House, have been closed as part of the security measures.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anant Mittal visited the Aya Nagar border to review security arrangements. Police personnel were checking vehicles entering the national capital to prevent unauthorised persons from reaching New Delhi.
