Net inflows into equity mutual funds rose 30.61 per cent month-on-month to Rs 38,306.55 crore in September, while the industry’s total assets under management (AUM) stood at Rs 82.64 lakh crore, according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on Monday.

The data showed that open-ended equity schemes mobilised Rs 74,831.96 crore during the month, against redemptions of Rs 36,525.41 crore.

Net assets under management of equity schemes stood at Rs 37.54 lakh crore, while their average AUM for September was Rs 38.51 lakh crore.

Among equity fund categories, small-cap funds attracted the highest net inflows of Rs 9,038.57 crore. The category, which had 3.03 crore folios, recorded gross inflows of Rs 13,025.13 crore and redemptions of Rs 3,986.56 crore.

Mid-cap funds followed with net inflows of Rs 7,834.84 crore, while flexi-cap funds attracted Rs 6,701.80 crore.

Large and mid-cap funds recorded inflows of Rs 4,271.22 crore, followed by multi-cap funds at Rs 3,859.55 crore.

Among other categories, sectoral funds received Rs 1,840.02 crore, thematic funds attracted Rs 1,800.07 crore, focused funds saw inflows of Rs 1,390.84 crore, value funds received Rs 1,290.89 crore and large-cap funds recorded inflows of Rs 859.47 crore.

Despite strong equity inflows, the overall mutual fund industry recorded net outflows of Rs 1,33,375.57 crore in September, primarily due to substantial withdrawals from debt-oriented schemes.

Debt mutual funds registered net outflows of Rs 1,83,155.76 crore during the month, weighing on the industry’s overall fund flows.

Meanwhile, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded net inflows of Rs 15,501.40 crore in September.

Equity ETFs attracted the highest inflows at Rs 9,959.96 crore, followed by gold ETFs at Rs 4,450.61 crore and silver ETFs at Rs 1,974.32 crore.

In August, equity mutual funds had recorded net inflows of Rs 29,328.62 crore, marking an increase of approximately 19 per cent from the previous month.

The mutual fund industry’s total AUM stood at Rs 87.08 lakh crore in August, reflecting a month-on-month increase of more than 1 per cent.

The September figures indicate continued investor interest in equity-oriented schemes, particularly small-cap and mid-cap funds, even as substantial outflows from debt funds weighed on the industry’s overall performance.
