South Africa on Tuesday hosted a virtual summit of the BRICS group of nations, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, to discuss the war between Israel and the Hamas terror group.

India’s Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday (November 21) condemned attack on civilians in the Israel-Hamas conflict at a virtual BRICS Summit.

Jaishankar called for restraint and said conflicts should be resolved through “dialogue and diplomacy.”

The BRICS group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It agreed in August to expand by adding Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates as members.

The minister also added that the concerns of Palestinians must be addressed in a serious manner and called the conflict a major humanitarian crisis.

Israel has pounded Gaza with air strikes and cut off food and fuel. Gaza health authorities deemed reliable by the United Nations say more than 11,000 people have been confirmed killed, more than 40% of them children.

The BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — are a group of major emerging economies seeking to reshape the US and Western-led global order.
