North India continued to grapple with harsh cold and dense fog on Friday, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Many areas in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi experienced dense to very dense fog, contributing to challenging weather conditions.
The IMD noted the prevalence of dense fog in isolated pockets of northwest Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Visibility plummeted to zero in Bhatinda, Punjab, and Bikaner, Rajasthan, during the morning hours, while Delhi and Haryana recorded visibility as low as 50 meters.
The impact extended to East and Northeast India, where fog-affected regions such as Tripura, covered in dense fog, and parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha experienced moderate fog. Tripura recorded a visibility of 50, according to the IMD.
The adverse weather conditions led to delays in train services across the country. The Northern Railways reported 22 Delhi-bound trains running behind schedule, with notable delays for trains like Khajaurao-Kurukshetra Express and Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, both delayed by six-and-a-half hours. Travel disruptions are anticipated as authorities work to manage the challenges posed by low visibility.
