Women officers will take the helm of the Indian Coast Guard contingent during this year’s Republic Day parade, showcasing a significant stride towards gender inclusivity in the country’s armed forces. Among these accomplished officers are Assistant Commandant Priya and Assistant Commandant Hardik.
Expressing her pride in leading the Indian Coast Guard contingent, Assistant Commandant Priya said that the parade serves as a national platform to showcase the strength and capabilities of women in the armed forces.
Assistant Commandant Chunauti Sharma, who has previously marched on the Kartavya Path as part of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), conveyed the uniqueness of the occasion. She said that, unlike in the NCC where women contingents are separate, this year marks a historic moment as women officers take charge of leading the Jawans.
Breaking new ground, the Republic Day parade will witness the participation of the Border Security Force’s (BSF) all-women marching and brass band contingents on Kartavya Path, marking a historic first in the ceremony.
Furthermore, two exclusive all-women contingents from the defence forces are set to march on Kartavya Path. The first contingent, comprised of 144 personnel, features women soldiers from the Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, emphasizing their integral role in the country’s defence apparatus.
Another contingent hails from the Directorate General of the Armed Forces Medical Services, showcasing the dedicated service of military nursing services. Led by women doctors, this contingent, inclusive of nurses, will showcase the multifaceted contributions of women in various capacities within the armed forces.
