IMD forecasts western disturbance impact on Western Himalayan region from Feb 29

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday that an active western disturbance is expected to influence the Western Himalayan Region starting February 29, with its effects extending to the plains of northwest India from March 1 to 3, peaking on March 1 and 2.

Additionally, the weather department highlighted the probability of substantial moisture influx from the Arabian Sea towards northwest India between March 1 and 2. As a result, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is anticipated over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on March 1-2.

The IMD has also predicted hailstorm activity at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on March 1 and 2, Rajasthan on March 1, and over Haryana-Chandigarh, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh on March 2.

An orange alert has been issued for Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, where isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall (64.5-115.5 mm) is expected on March 1, followed by very heavy rainfall/snowfall (115.6-204.4 mm) on March 2.
