Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, said on Tuesday that India’s strides over the past decade lay the groundwork for its transformation into a developed nation by 2047.
Speaking at the FICCI’s National Conclave in Delhi, themed “Viksit Bharat@ 2047: Viksit Bharat & Industry,” Thakur highlighted the success of UPI as a testament to the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises. Despite initial skepticism, UPI has gained widespread acceptance, positioning India as a global leader in digital payments.
Thakur expressed gratitude to taxpayers, highlighting the government’s efficient utilization of funds in the social sector to directly benefit intended recipients.
Pointing out significant achievements, Thakur noted the construction of 40 million houses, provision of 100 million toilets, distribution of over 100 million LPG cylinders, and the installation of more than 130 million tap water connections. Additionally, he highlighted the reach of initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, benefiting over 600 million individuals, and free food distribution to over 800 million people.
Highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure development, Thakur cited remarkable progress in various sectors. National highway construction has surged from 90,000 to 150,000 kilometers, the number of airports has doubled to 150, AIIMS facilities have increased from 7 to 23, and the count of IITs has risen from 12 to 19. Moreover, the length of rural roads has doubled, solidifying India’s position among the top five global economies.
Thakur credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for India’s success and enhanced global stature. He commended the government’s support for domestic industries and the agricultural sector, including the fulfillment of promises like cost plus 50%.
Thakur urged industry leaders to collaborate with potential investors, leveraging India’s talent pool for the nation’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
