Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri unveiled ‘ETHANOL 100,’ a groundbreaking automotive fuel. The launch took place at the Indian Oil Retail Outlet M/s. Irwin Road Service Station, marking the availability of ETHANOL 100 at select 183 retail outlets across five states – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, and Tamil Nadu.
The launch event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, alongside senior officials from the Ministry and IndianOil.
Puri highlighted that the inspiration behind ETHANOL 100 stemmed from the vision of the Prime Minister to empower farmers and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. He emphasized that this revolutionary fuel has the potential to reshape the transportation landscape of the nation, reflecting the government’s commitment to curbing import dependency, conserving foreign exchange, and bolstering the agriculture sector.
Since the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding E20 (20% ethanol blended fuel) in 2023, the availability of E20 has seen a remarkable increase, reaching 12,000 outlets within a year. With the launch of ETHANOL 100 at 183 IndianOil outlets, the nation is nearing its target of achieving 20% ethanol blending by 2025-26. These initiatives not only enhance farmer incomes and rural employment but also contribute to environmental sustainability, with significant reductions in CO2 emissions and foreign exchange savings.
Shri Jain, Secretary MoPNG, underscored the transition towards sustainable technologies, expressing confidence in ethanol-based vehicles and applauding IndianOil for spearheading this initiative. Shri Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, emphasized India’s milestone achievement in adopting ETHANOL 100, positioning the nation at the forefront of sustainability and clean mobility efforts.
ETHANOL 100 emerges as a cleaner, greener alternative to gasoline, with lower emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants, thereby combating climate change and improving air quality. Its high-octane rating makes it suitable for high-performance engines, ensuring enhanced efficiency and power output while minimizing environmental impact. Furthermore, its versatility allows it to be utilized in various vehicles, including flex-fuel vehicles, underscoring its potential as a mainstream fuel option with the right infrastructure in place.
