India and the United Kingdom held the 16th meeting of their Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism on May 21 in New Delhi
Both countries strongly condemned all forms of terrorism, including the cross-border movement of terrorists. They emphasized the need for stronger international cooperation to fight terrorism in a comprehensive and sustained manner, in line with the UN charter and international law.
India and the UK shared their assessments of terrorist and extremist threats in their regions, including threats from globally sanctioned terrorist entities and individuals. They also discussed using the proscription of individual terrorists and entities as a tool to combat terrorism and ways to collaborate in multilateral forums.
The meeting covered various counter-terrorism challenges, such as countering radicalization and violent extremism, combating terrorist financing, preventing the misuse of new technologies for terrorism, and enhancing law enforcement and judicial cooperation. They also discussed information sharing, aviation, and maritime security. Both countries agreed to strengthen and deepen their bilateral cooperation to address these challenges.
The next meeting of the India-UK Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism will be held in the UK at a mutually convenient date.
