The star Indian men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be hoping to continue with their winning momentum at the Paris Olympics, despite their second Group C match against Germany’s Marvin Seidel and Mark Lamsfuss being cancelled due to Mark facing a knee injury, making their third game a must-win one.
Satwiksairaj and Chirag began their campaign with a 21-17, 21-14 victory over France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar. They were set to face the German pair, but will now play the Indonesian duo, currently ranked seventh and former world number one, in a must-win match on Tuesday. The Indian pair leads their head-to-head record 3-2, with their latest victory at the Korean Open 2023 final.
This year, ‘Sat-Chi’ has won the French Open and Thailand Open and finished as runners-up in the Malaysian Open and India Open. They were part of the Indian team at the 2024 Thomas Cup but lost in the quarterfinals to China.
With a peak world ranking of number one, multiple BWF Tour titles, a World Championships bronze medal and gold medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, Satwiksairaj and Chirag are strong contenders for an Olympic medal.
