PM Modi arrives at Archmere Academy for Quad leaders’ summit in Delaware

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Archmere Academy on Saturday for the Quad Leaders’ Summit, where he was warmly received by US President Joe Biden.

As the leaders gathered for the summit, a family photo was taken, capturing PM Modi alongside President Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

According to NHK World, a senior US official announced plans to enhance coordination among the coast guards of the four nations—United States, Japan, Australia, and India—under the Quad’s cooperative framework. The summit is expected to focus on strengthening maritime security cooperation, particularly in light of China’s increasing assertiveness in the region.

The Quad represents a strategic diplomatic partnership among Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. This summit marks the fourth in-person and sixth overall meeting of the Quad Leaders, with President Biden serving as the host.

Notably, this summit serves as a farewell gathering for both President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida as they prepare to step down from their respective offices.

The Quad Leaders’ Summit is a continuation of discussions initiated in previous meetings, with the first summit held virtually in 2021. Subsequent meetings included the first in-person summit in Washington, D.C., in September 2021, a virtual summit in March 2022, and the second in-person summit hosted by Japan in May 2022. The fifth summit took place in Hiroshima, Japan, in May 2023.

The focus of this summit is to bolster strategic alignment among the four nations, aiming to advance a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that this will be the first time President Biden hosts foreign leaders in Wilmington.

She said that the Quad Leaders Summit will focus on bolstering the strategic convergence among our countries, advancing our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and delivering concrete benefits for partners in the Indo-Pacific in key areas.

Quad brings together the four countries with a commitment to work as a force for global good and to support an open, free, and inclusive Indo-Pacific that is prosperous and resilient.
