Amid the ongoing flood situation in Telangana, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have spoken to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and assured him of providing the required assistance.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said, “There has been a huge loss, especially in Khammam and Mahabubabad areas of Telangana due to floods. Water has entered the houses of people.”
He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers are also providing relief materials to the flood-affected people.
“After the report is submitted to the central government by the state government, the officials of the central government will arrive to assess and provide the required assistance,” he added.
He added that the administration is concentrated on relief activities.
Earlier, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday expressed grief over the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and urged Congress leaders to mobilise aid to support the ongoing relief and rescue efforts in both the States.
The Congress leader emphasised that the Telangana government is working tirelessly to manage the crisis and initiate the rebuilding process.
In a post on X, Gandhi said: “I strongly urge both the Central Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government to swiftly provide comprehensive rehabilitation packages for all those affected by this disaster.”
CM Reddy on Monday announced an immediate relief package of Rs 5 crore for the flood-hit districts of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet.
He also declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods. Reddy assured that the compensation for the loss of cattle, goats, and sheep would be increased, and he directed authorities to respond swiftly to the damage caused by the floods.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the state government will submit a comprehensive report on flood damages to the central government. Chief Minister Reddy said he will write a letter to the union government seeking immediate assistance and flood relief and appeal to the Centre to declare the floods in the state as a national calamity.
