West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose voiced deep disappointment over the state’s deteriorating law and order situation and the alarming rise in crimes against women. Describing the issue as a “sad fact,” Governor Bose emphasized that society must collectively and decisively stand against these atrocities.

“It is a sad fact of contemporary Bengal that atrocities are heaped upon women. This is something that the entire society has to resist forcefully and effectively, and we will do it,” stated the Governor, following his attendance at a Jay Jawan Day celebration with military veterans.

His remarks come amid widespread demands for justice in the RG Kar rape and murder case. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari recently met with the victim’s family, pledging the BJP’s support. “The whole of the BJP and I stand with this family. Our minister of state has visited them twice, and I also met them during Durga Puja. Our fight for justice is ongoing, and we will continue until those responsible are held accountable,” Adhikari said, urging punishment for the culprits and those who allegedly tampered with evidence.

Earlier, junior doctors had called for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to intervene, demanding stringent action and capital punishment for those implicated in the crime.

Adding to the criticism, senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of fostering fear and tension as the Medinipur by-elections approach. “TMC conducts by-elections here. They decide who gets the vote, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension right before the elections,” Ghosh said.
