UPPSC to conduct preliminary exam in single day following student protests

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has announced that it will conduct the preliminary examination in a single day following recent protests by aspirants. The decision was confirmed by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Thursday, aiming to address the concerns raised by students demanding a streamlined examination schedule.

In Prayagraj, a large number of aspirants gathered outside the UPPSC office, urging officials to hold the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) and Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) exams in a single day and single shift. Responding to the protests, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed UPPSC to coordinate with the students and implement the single-day examination plan for the PCS Preliminary Examination 2024.

Additionally, the UPPSC has formed a committee to evaluate the RO/ARO Preliminary Examination 2023. This committee is expected to assess all relevant factors and provide a detailed report soon.

One protester highlighted that while the PCS exam will follow its traditional format, they are demanding an official notice for the RO/ARO examination cancellation. “We need formal notification on the UPPSC website. Until that happens, our protest will continue,” said the aspirant.

District Magistrate of Prayagraj, Ravindra Kumar, confirmed that UPPSC will soon announce the exam date for PCS.

Earlier on Thursday, UPPSC Secretary Ashok Kumar met with the protesting students, who have been demonstrating for four days, demanding a single-shift exam structure. The protests have grown increasingly intense, with students breaking through barricades to reach Gate No. 2 of the UPPSC office and continuing their sit-in demonstration.
