Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit India, with preparations for the visit currently underway, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed on Thursday, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Speaking virtually at the “Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda” conference, Lavrov said that India is making arrangements for Putin’s visit. The conference was jointly organized by the Embassy of India in Russia and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).
Lavrov emphasized that Putin’s visit follows an invitation extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who made his first foreign visit to Russia after securing re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
“[Russian] President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit from the Indian head of government. A visit by the Russian head of state to the Republic of India is currently being prepared,” Lavrov said, as quoted by TASS.
Prime Minister Modi previously visited Russia in July 2023 at Putin’s invitation to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.
