PM Modi To Visit Sikkim, Launch Projects Worth Over ₹4,000 Crore During Statehood Celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim on April 27-28 to take part in the closing ceremony of the state’s 50th year of statehood celebrations and inaugurate, launch and lay foundation stones for projects worth over ₹4,000 crore across sectors ranging from connectivity and healthcare to tourism, education and urban development.

PM Modi will arrive in Gangtok on April 27 at around 3 p.m. On April 28, at approximately 9:30 a.m, he is scheduled to visit the Orchidarium in Gangtok, including the newly developed Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park, a world-class orchid experience centre developed to showcase the state’s ecological and floral heritage.

Later in the day, at 10 a.m, the Prime Minister will participate in the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th year of statehood celebrations at Paljor Stadium, where he will also address a gathering and unveil a broad package of development initiatives aimed at accelerating inclusive growth in the state.

Among key healthcare projects, the PM will lay the foundation stone for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district and inaugurate a 30-bed Integrated Sowa Rigpa Hospital at NIT Deorali, aimed at expanding access to traditional and integrative healthcare systems.

In the education sector, he will inaugurate the permanent campus of Sikkim University at Yangang, the administrative block of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University of Excellence at Chakung, Helen Lepcha Medical College at Socheygang and Dentam Professional College in Gyalshing district. Model residential schools at Hee Gyathang, a Model Degree College at Mangshila in Mangan district and a monastic hostel-cum-classroom at Boomtar Gumpa in Namchi district will also be inaugurated. In addition, the Prime Minister will launch implementation of IT-enabled educational infrastructure projects across 160 schools.

Connectivity projects include the foundation stone laying for two hinged double-lane steel arch bridges over the Teesta River at Sirwani and Lower Samdong, linking Namchi and Gangtok districts. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the widening and strengthening of the Birdhang-Namchi road via Kitchudumra aimed at improving inter-district movement.

In the power sector, the PM will inaugurate improvement, upgradation and revamping of the transmission and distribution network in Gangtok to strengthen power reliability.

Urban development and administrative infrastructure projects include inauguration of the Jan Seva Sachivalaya (Mini Secretariat) at Lumsey and the Civil Service Officers Institute in Gangtok, besides housing projects under Sikkim Urban Garib Awas Yojana at Lingding, housing for police personnel and Grade C quarters at SAP Pangthang. He will also lay the foundation stone for Sadhbhav Mandap, a public utility centre at MG Marg.

On the environmental front, the PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for sewerage rehabilitation in Singtam under river pollution abatement efforts and inaugurate the pollution abatement scheme of River Rani Chu through Roro Chu in Zone III, Gangtok.

In tourism and pilgrimage, he will inaugurate redevelopment of the Ridge Precinct in Gangtok, eco-tourism and pilgrimage infrastructure at Dodak in Soreng, and facilities linked to the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra at 18th Mile and Hangu Lake, along with a Yatri Niwas at Krishna Pranami Mangaldham in Namphing. The foundation stone for an Eco-Pilgrimage Complex at Silnon in Gyalshing district will also be laid.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the IFFCO Processing Plant in Sikkim, expected to boost agro-processing and farmer value chains, besides indoor cricket facilities at Mining, Rangpo in Pakyong district aimed at promoting sports infrastructure.

The visit comes as Sikkim marks 50 years of statehood and is being positioned as a key milestone underscoring the Centre’s focus on rapid and sustainable development in the Northeast.
