‘Democracy has won’: PM Modi hails BJP’s record victory in Bengal’s Falta assembly bypoll

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping victory in the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “People of Falta have spoken! Democracy has won and intimidation has lost. Congratulations to Shri Debangshu Panda Ji for winning in Falta by a record margin. It indicates the unwavering faith of the people of West Bengal towards the BJP. People are seeing the exceptional work of the West Bengal Government across sectors and thus have decided to further bless us.”

“My compliments to all BJP Karyakartas across West Bengal for their outstanding work. We will keep working for West Bengal’s progress in the times to come,” he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the result as “Bengal’s final decree for progress and against the politics of fear.” He congratulated the BJP’s West Bengal leadership and party workers for what he called their efforts to “restore democracy” in the state.

West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari also celebrated the victory, calling it a “resounding verdict against tyranny” and a mandate for development.

“The lotus has bloomed in Falta, and this is just the beginning,” Adhikari said in one of his posts on X. He claimed that the people had rejected what he termed the “Diamond Harbour model” and alleged misuse of state machinery by the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Adhikari further said the BJP’s victory margin had crossed one lakh votes, exceeding the target he had publicly appealed for during the campaign. He asserted that the result reflected people’s desire for political change in West Bengal and pledged to work towards the development of Falta.

The BJP’s West Bengal unit also celebrated the outcome, stating that “people’s power” had prevailed in the constituency.
