India and Egypt on Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation against terrorism during the 5th meeting of the India-Egypt Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism held in New Delhi.
The high-level meeting, co-chaired by senior officials from the Ministries of External Affairs and Foreign Affairs of the two countries, saw participation from relevant security and counter-terrorism agencies from both sides.
In a joint statement issued after the talks, India and Egypt strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism, and reiterated their policy of zero tolerance towards terror activities.
The two countries stressed that terrorism should not be linked to any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group, while underlining the need for sustained and coordinated global action to combat the threat.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both sides strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, as well as the terror incident near Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025. They emphasized that all those involved in terrorist activities, including their supporters and financiers, must be held accountable and brought to justice.
Egypt reaffirmed its solidarity with India in combating terrorism aimed at undermining the country’s security and stability.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation at multilateral forums, including the United Nations, BRICS, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF). Both countries reiterated support for the early finalisation and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) at the United Nations.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on emerging global and regional terror threats, including the growing misuse of technology by terrorist groups.
India and Egypt expressed concern over the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones and artificial intelligence for terrorist purposes. They also discussed measures to enhance cooperation in cyber security, counter-terror financing, judicial cooperation, intelligence sharing, training and capacity building.
The two countries called for concerted international action against all UN-designated terrorists, terrorist entities, their affiliates, proxy groups, sponsors and financiers.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to hold the next session of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in Egypt on mutually convenient dates.
