PM Modi Congratulates Election Commission of India, Security Forces for Conduct of Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Election Commission of India (ECI) and security forces for their role in “maintaining the dignity of Indian democracy” during the Assembly elections.

Addressing party supporters at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi, the Prime Minister described the 2026 Assembly election results in five states as a victory for the Constitution and democratic institutions.

According to trends, the BJP is poised to secure a strong majority in West Bengal, while the party has returned to power in Assam. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is also set to retain Puducherry.

The Prime Minister said the high voter turnout reflects India’s democratic strength.

“I congratulate the Election Commission, all those involved in the electoral process, and especially the security forces. History will remember your contribution to maintaining the dignity of Indian democracy,” he said.

“Today, not only has democracy won, but so has the Constitution. Our democratic institutions and processes have been strengthened,” he added.

PM Modi described the day as “historic,” stating that the results reflect public trust in democratic values and governance.

“Winning and losing are part of democracy. The people of five states have once again demonstrated the strength of India’s democratic system,” he said.

The Prime Minister also referred to by-election results in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nagaland and Tripura, where NDA candidates secured victories.

He noted the win of Sunetra Pawar in Baramati, expressing gratitude to voters for their support.

In the by-elections, the BJP secured victories in seats including Umreth in Gujarat, Rahuri in Maharashtra, Koridang in Nagaland and Dharmanagar in Tripura.

Counting of votes was held for Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. (ANI)
