Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan led the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the South Campus Ground of University of Delhi on Sunday, emphasising the importance of yoga in promoting physical health, mental peace, and holistic development.
Addressing participants at the event, Pradhan described yoga as a powerful medium for achieving harmony between the body, mind, and soul. He said yoga plays a vital role in fostering a healthy and balanced lifestyle and continues to guide individuals towards overall well-being.
“Yoga is a medium of harmony for body, mind and soul, leading us towards a better and healthier life,” the Union Minister said.
Highlighting yoga’s growing global acceptance, Pradhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has emerged as a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage and healthy way of life, inspiring people around the world to embrace wellness, balance, and mindfulness.
The Minister also underscored India’s growing stature in the fields of education, innovation, and entrepreneurship, stating that the country’s education ecosystem is playing a crucial role in nurturing future-ready talent and advancing the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Congratulating the University of Delhi on its continued rise in global university rankings, Pradhan commended the efforts of the institution’s students, faculty, and staff. He expressed confidence that the university would continue its pursuit of academic excellence and stressed the importance of integrating yoga into campus life to promote holistic development and create a healthier society.
The event witnessed participation from students, faculty members, yoga practitioners, and officials of the Ministry of Education, who joined the nationwide observance by performing yoga sessions at the venue.
Among those present were Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar; Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Vineet Joshi; and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, along with senior officials and members of the university community.
A live telecast of the national International Yoga Day programme led by PM Modi from Kolkata was also screened during the event, allowing participants to join the larger nationwide celebration of yoga and wellness.
Observed annually on June 21, the International Day of Yoga promotes awareness of the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. This year’s celebrations were held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting the importance of adopting yoga as a lifelong practice for health, vitality, and overall well-being.
