Defence Minister Rajnath Singh | Operation Sindoor

Government Rejects Misrepresentation of Defence Minister’s Parliament Remarks on Operation Sindoor

The Government on Saturday issued a clarification rejecting what it described as the misrepresentation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s address in Parliament on July 28, 2025, regarding Operation Sindoor.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said certain posts circulating on social media had selectively quoted an isolated portion of the Raksha Mantri’s speech to falsely suggest that he had claimed no Indian soldier lost his life during Operation Sindoor. The Ministry termed such claims “deliberately misleading” and “factually incorrect.”

According to the statement, the remarks made by the Defence Minister were in response to what it described as a false narrative circulating at the time, claiming that Indian pilots had been lost during Operation Sindoor. The government said this misinformation was being amplified on social media and in sections of the media with the intent of undermining the success of the operation and affecting public morale.

The Ministry said the Defence Minister’s statement was specifically aimed at rebutting this misinformation and should not be interpreted out of context.

Reiterating the broader context of the parliamentary address, the government said the speech highlighted the achievements of Operation Sindoor and paid tribute to the professionalism and courage of the Indian Armed Forces. It stated that the operation resulted in the neutralisation of more than 100 terrorists and Pakistani soldiers, while Pakistani air bases and military infrastructure along the Line of Control also suffered significant damage.

The statement further said the Government remains steadfast in its respect and gratitude towards every member of the Armed Forces, particularly those who have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.

It noted that the names of fallen personnel have been inscribed on the walls of the National War Memorial in recognition of their sacrifice. The government also said it has extended educational, healthcare and other welfare benefits to the families and dependents of the bravehearts.

The Ministry urged people not to be misled by selective and out-of-context social media posts regarding the Raksha Mantri’s parliamentary address.
