The Southwest Monsoon advanced further on Tuesday, covering additional parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, the remaining areas of Telangana and Odisha, and more regions of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD said weather conditions remain favourable for the monsoon’s further advance into parts of Gujarat, additional areas of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh over the next two to three days. The remaining regions of Jharkhand and Bihar, along with parts of Uttar Pradesh, are likely to come under monsoon influence during the subsequent three to four days.
The weather office has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm, along the west coast, across Northeast India, and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the week.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are expected to continue over East Uttar Pradesh for the next four to five days. Vidarbha, southeast Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are also likely to experience heatwave conditions over the next two to three days.
Delhi Forecast
Delhi recorded a fall of 1-2 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over the past 24 hours, while minimum temperatures remained largely unchanged.
Maximum temperatures across the national capital were recorded between 38°C and 39°C, while minimum temperatures ranged from 25°C to 27°C. The minimum temperature remained appreciably below normal by 3.1°C to 5.0°C at isolated locations and below normal by 1.6°C to 3.0°C at many places. Maximum temperatures were below normal at isolated places and near normal elsewhere.
Partly cloudy skies prevailed over the city during the past 24 hours, accompanied by westerly winds of up to 22 kmph, gusting to 33 kmph.
For June 23, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of very light to light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the afternoon and evening. Wind speeds may reach 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph, while maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 39°C and 41°C.
On June 24, partly cloudy conditions are likely to continue, with the possibility of thunderstorm activity developing during the afternoon or evening. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to range between 39°C-41°C and 26°C-28°C, respectively.
Partly cloudy skies are also expected on June 25, with maximum temperatures likely to remain between 38°C and 40°C and minimum temperatures between 27°C and 29°C.
For June 26, the IMD has forecast partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 20-30 kmph, reaching up to 40 kmph during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are expected to range between 39°C and 41°C during the day and 27°C and 29°C at night.
Thunderstorm Advisory
The IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, with speeds reaching up to 60 kmph in isolated areas, along with dust-raising winds over Delhi during the forecast period.
Possible impacts include uprooting of trees, breaking of branches, damage to standing crops, disruption of power and communication lines, partial damage to vulnerable structures and displacement of unsecured objects.
The weather office has advised residents to monitor weather updates closely, avoid unnecessary travel during adverse conditions, remain indoors, secure doors and windows, and seek shelter in safe locations. People have also been cautioned against taking shelter under trees, using electrical appliances during lightning activity, standing near conductive objects, or entering water bodies during storms.
