Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash, a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, on June 20 as part of its ongoing operational deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region, the Ministry of Defence said on Sunday.
During the port call, Commanding Officer Captain Rohit Mishra will meet senior officials of the Mauritius government and the Mauritius Coast Guard.
The ministry said the ship’s crew will conduct a series of professional training programmes for personnel of the Mauritius National Coast Guard, covering harbour and sea watchkeeping, firefighting, damage control, maritime safety and seamanship.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing the capacity and capabilities of friendly maritime forces in the region.
INS Tarkash will also be open to visitors during its stay in Port Louis, offering an opportunity for local residents to interact with Indian naval personnel and further strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Notably, the ship represented India during the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Mauritius on June 21.
According to the defence ministry, the visit is intended to deepen maritime cooperation and reinforce the longstanding bilateral relationship between India and Mauritius.
