Mandaviya, Akshay Kumar to Join 3,000 Participants for Yoga Day Event at JLN Stadium

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports and Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya and actor and fitness advocate Akshay Kumar will join around 3,000 participants for a mass yoga session at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital on Sunday as part of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations.

Held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the event is among the country’s largest public celebrations dedicated to wellness and preventive healthcare.

According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Yoga Day celebrations will be organised nationwide through coordinated sessions at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, SAI Training Centres and Khelo India institutions. More than 15,000 participants are expected to take part across the country.

National Sports Federations, state sports departments and sports universities will also hold simultaneous events, bringing together the country’s sporting ecosystem to promote yoga and healthy living.

The flagship Fit India event at JLN Stadium will feature a guided yoga session by celebrity yoga instructor Anshuka Parwani. Athletes, students, senior citizens, fitness enthusiasts, yoga practitioners and families are expected to participate in the event.

Highlighting the significance of International Day of Yoga, Mandaviya said the annual observance has grown into a global celebration of physical, mental and spiritual well-being since the United Nations adopted June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014 following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal.

“Yoga has transcended geographical boundaries to become a global phenomenon,” the minister said, adding that the occasion brings together millions of practitioners across continents.

The 12th International Day of Yoga is expected to witness participation from millions of people across more than 180 countries. Over the past decade, the observance has evolved into one of the world’s largest wellness movements, with India playing a leading role in promoting holistic health and preventive healthcare.
