Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for a three-day state visit to Seychelles, where he will participate as the Guest of Honour at the island nation’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations from June 27 to 29.
In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said the visit comes at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie and coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Describing Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, PM Modi said the bilateral relationship is built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and strong people-to-people ties.
The PM said he looks forward to holding talks with President Herminie to further strengthen the longstanding partnership, building on the Seychelles President’s State Visit to India in February this year. The discussions, he said, will focus on advancing the progress of both nations while promoting security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, a move he described as a reflection of the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions shared by the two countries.
PM Modi also said he looks forward to interacting with the Indian community in Seychelles, acknowledging its role in nurturing the special friendship between the two nations over generations.
Expressing confidence that the visit will further deepen bilateral ties, PM Modi said it would enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous region.
