PM Modi marks 12 years in office, reiterates commitment to Viksit Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the past 12 years of the BJP-led government have been dedicated to public welfare, inclusive development and empowering citizens, adding that these efforts have helped India establish a new identity on the global stage.
 
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the government has worked with the spirit of “Nation First” and focused on the welfare of youth, women, farmers and the poor.
 
“The past 12 years of our government have been dedicated to trust, development and public welfare. With the blessings of 1.4 billion fellow citizens and the spirit of nation first, we have spared no effort in empowering our youth, women and our farmer brothers and sisters,” PM Modi said.
 
He added that initiatives ranging from infrastructure development to the digital revolution have strengthened India’s standing globally.
 
“It is the result of these tireless efforts that today, from infrastructure to the digital revolution, the country has gained a new identity on the global stage. To realise the resolve of a Viksit Bharat, we will continue to move forward relentlessly on this path of service, good governance and prosperity,” the Prime Minister said.
 
June 10 marks 12 years since Narendra Modi first assumed office as Prime Minister in 2014. Since then, he has secured successive mandates in 2019 and 2024, becoming the first Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to lead a government for three consecutive terms.
 
According to official records, Prime Minister Modi is set to surpass Jawaharlal Nehru as India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister. His tenure as Prime Minister now exceeds 4,399 days, adding to nearly 13 years of service as Chief Minister of Gujarat.
 
The Modi government’s tenure has been marked by several major infrastructure and development initiatives, including the new Parliament building, the Central Vista redevelopment project, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, the Statue of Unity, INS Vikrant, the Kashmir rail link, Noida International Airport, Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Ganga Expressway.
 
Union ministers also highlighted the government’s achievements over the past 12 years and reiterated their support for the vision of a developed India by 2047.
 
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Prime Minister Modi’s third consecutive swearing-in on June 9, 2024, marked a new chapter in India’s political history.
 
He said the journey of “#12YearsOfSeva” has been guided by the principle of “Service Before Self” and has witnessed progress in poverty alleviation, national security, infrastructure development, governance reforms and digital innovation.
 
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the government had established new benchmarks in public welfare and development. He highlighted initiatives such as free foodgrain distribution to over 81 crore beneficiaries, housing support under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, women’s financial inclusion through Jan Dhan accounts and the growth of self-help groups.
 
Goyal also pointed to the expansion of metro rail networks, the increasing number of airports, the rollout of Vande Bharat trains and the growth of India’s startup ecosystem.
 
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the guiding principle of the government has been “Jan Seva Se Jan Shakti”, with a focus on inclusion, innovation and opportunity.
 
She highlighted the success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, under which more than 58 crore bank accounts have been opened, and the PM SVANidhi scheme, which has extended financial assistance to street vendors across the country.
 
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia said the government’s focus on public welfare and good governance had brought positive changes to millions of lives, while Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri described Prime Minister Modi’s leadership as being rooted in service, discipline and commitment to nation-building.
 
As the government completes 12 years in office, leaders across the Union Cabinet said the focus remains on accelerating development, strengthening governance and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
