President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday attended the 36th convocation ceremony of Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where she urged students to use their education and talent not only for personal success but also for the greater good of society.
Addressing the gathering, the President described education as the most effective means for the development of individuals and communities, stressing the importance of advancing educational opportunities for tribal youth while preserving their unique identity, culture and traditions. She said educational institutions should make special efforts to study and promote tribal knowledge systems and craft traditions for the benefit of society.
Highlighting the role of higher education institutions, President Murmu said universities are not only centres of learning but also hubs of innovation and research. She emphasised the need to foster creative thinking, scientific temper and entrepreneurial spirit among students while instilling pride in Indian culture, traditions and languages. A harmonious blend of modernity and tradition, she said, is essential for the country’s balanced development.
The President also called for greater focus on studies and research related to environmental conservation, women’s empowerment, social harmony and the development of marginalised communities, noting that such efforts contribute to national progress and policy formulation.
Advising students to uphold the values of truth, non-violence, compassion, service and honesty, she said these ideals remain relevant despite rapid changes in society and technology. She encouraged young people to seize opportunities emerging in sectors such as digital technology, startups, green energy, space research and modern infrastructure while remaining committed to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Describing students as architects of the nation’s future, President Murmu said their knowledge, energy and determination would play a crucial role in realising the vision of a developed India and urged them to work towards empowering underprivileged and rural communities through innovative and inclusive solutions.
