Team India delivered an impressive performance at the Global Skills Challenge (GSC) Australia 2026, securing three gold, one silver and one bronze medal, in a major boost to the country’s preparations for the 48th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Shanghai later this year.
Held from June 23 to 29, the Global Skills Challenge brought together nearly 600 competitors, experts, translators and officials from 16 WorldSkills member countries, including Australia, India, China, Japan, the United States, France, South Korea and Austria.
India’s gold medal winners were Pavan Bhadravati Suresha from Karnataka in Additive Manufacturing, Mausam Kumar Giri from Bihar in Cloud Computing, and Vishnupriya Sunil from Delhi in Health and Social Care. Harsh Ramesh Pawar of Maharashtra won the silver medal in 3D Digital Game Art, while Muskan from Haryana secured the bronze medal in Painting and Decorating.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said the results reflect the growing global competitiveness of India’s skilled youth across advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, creative industries and service-sector skills. Other Indian participants also gained valuable international exposure by competing against some of the world’s best young professionals across multiple disciplines.
Congratulating the contingent, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary said the medal haul was a testament to the talent, dedication and hard work of India’s Skill Champions, experts, mentors and industry partners. He said the competition also provided valuable exposure to international standards and strengthened India’s preparations for the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai.
India fielded a 30-member contingent, comprising 15 competitors and 15 experts, across 15 skill categories, including 3D Digital Game Art, Additive Manufacturing, Automobile Technology, Beauty Therapy, Bricklaying, Cloud Computing, Floristry, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Industrial Mechanics, Painting and Decorating, Restaurant Service, Wall and Floor Tiling, and Web Technologies.
Designed as a full-scale simulation of the WorldSkills Competition, the Global Skills Challenge enabled participants to compete under international assessment standards using the globally recognised Competition Information System (CIS). The event also familiarised competitors with international equipment, evaluation processes and high-pressure competitive environments.
According to the ministry, India’s participation forms part of the broader Skill India Mission, which aims to build a future-ready workforce through industry partnerships, advanced training infrastructure, expert mentorship and international exposure. The government said such competitions also help make vocational skills more aspirational by demonstrating that excellence in trades, technology, design and services can lead to global recognition and career opportunities.
