‘Tenure reflects unwavering dedication’: Rajnath Singh congratulates PM Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history, describing the milestone as a reflection of the people’s enduring trust in his leadership and his unwavering commitment to inclusive development and good governance.

In a post on X, Singh said, “Congratulations to Shri Narendra Modi Ji on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history, completing 4,399 days in office. A tireless karmayogi guided by the principle of ‘Nation First’, his tenure reflects unwavering dedication to India, steadfast commitment to the welfare of its people, and transformative leadership in service of the nation.”

He further said that the achievement underscores the confidence reposed in PM Modi’s leadership by the people of India.

“This achievement is a testament to the enduring trust reposed in his leadership by the people of India and his relentless pursuit of inclusive development and good governance. Over the past 12 years, India has made remarkable progress in development and global leadership, while also witnessing a civilisational reawakening that has made the nation more confident, self-assured, and rooted in its heritage,” Singh said.

Expressing confidence in the country’s future trajectory, the Defence Minister added, “As India advances towards the goal of Viksit Bharat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to lead the nation towards greater prosperity, progress, and global prominence.”

PM Modi on Wednesday became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, completing 12 years at the helm of the Union Government.

With 4,399 days in office, he surpassed the record of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. For this comparison, Nehru’s tenure is counted from 1952 onwards, following India’s first general elections, as he had led the country’s interim government between 1947 and 1952.

Although former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi served in office for more than 14 years, her tenure was not continuous. As a result, PM Modi now holds the distinction of being India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister. Since first taking office in 2014, he has secured consecutive mandates in 2019 and 2024, becoming the first Prime Minister since Nehru to win three successive terms.
