Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday participated in the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations at the historic Jhansi Fort Ground, joining thousands of people in observing the global event dedicated to health, wellness and holistic living.
The Chief Minister performed yoga exercises as part of the celebrations and was felicitated with a sapling on stage during the event, symbolising environmental conservation and sustainable living.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi Adityanath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving global recognition to India’s ancient traditions and cultural heritage through the International Day of Yoga initiative.
“We are all grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has given global recognition to India’s traditions and heritage, and has presented a vision for all of us, enabling 140 crore Indians to move forward with pride in the world, and to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat,” he said.
Highlighting the Prime Minister’s continued efforts to expand the reach of yoga, the Chief Minister added, “You must have seen that the Prime Minister himself visits different states every year to take these International Yoga Day events to new heights of success. It is my good fortune that this year I have the opportunity to join you all in this International Yoga Day event on this historic ground in Jhansi.”
The International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on June 21 across the world to promote the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga and encourage a healthier lifestyle.
This year’s observance was held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, emphasising the role of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and active living across all stages of life.
Meanwhile, PM Modi led the national celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga from the iconic Red Road in Kolkata, where thousands of participants joined him in performing the Common Yoga Protocol. The event formed part of nationwide and global celebrations highlighting yoga’s growing role as a movement for health, harmony and holistic well-being.
